Looking for Hotels Near Cheltenham Racecourse? There’s so much more to this Regency Town than Hats and Horses

When you picture a weekend away in this regency town with family or friends, you will no doubt imagine impressive architecture, quaint afternoon teas and beautiful walks, with a day at the races on the agenda, but Cheltenham has so much more to offer than that. We have pulled together a few of our favourite finds for you to explore if you are visiting hotels near Cheltenham racecourse before the year is out.

The Lido

Sandford Park’s Lido is host to some of Cheltenham’s most outlandish events. From a chilling poolside screening of Spielberg’s ‘Jaws’ to the starting point for The Devil’s Aquathlon, the events at Cheltenham’s open air pool won’t disappoint. Scary sharks and cold waters aside, however, the lido is also a perfect spot to while away the afternoon catching some rays and taking a dip.

Devil Mud Run

The Devil Mud Run provides participants from far and wide with the chance to run across rugged countryside and dark forest – with plenty of mud and water to tackle! The course tests the mental and physical strength of those who dare to take on the ‘Devil’s Playground’ but for those of you who don’t fancy attempting the course yourself, bring along your family and friends to cheer on those who do for a fun day out!

Cheltenham Half Marathon

A tree lined course in the heart of the Cotswolds makes for one of the most picturesque half marathons in the UK. The Cheltenham Half, which takes place on 25th September, is a great chance to cheer on charitable runners in the late September sun. If you or your runner needs somewhere to rest their weary head post-race, then head to one of the finest Cheltenham hotels near the racecourse for home comforts and a relaxing stay.

Theatre

Home to everything from the toe-tapping classics such as the famous Footloose to seasonal favourites such as Swan Lake and The Nutcracker later in the year, The Everyman Theatre has so much to offer even the most seasoned of theatre goers.  For something a little different, however, visit The Bacon Theatre where you will get to sit back and enjoy delights ranging from a Bowie tribute act in November to RSC Live screenings of King Lear and Othello later in the year.

Festivals of Culture

British towns and cities love a festival and Cheltenham is no exception to that rule. If you are up for a laugh, visit the Hobgoblin Cheltenham Comedy Festival playing host to famous faces such as Jenny Éclair and Sarah Millican as well as Richard Herring and Rob Beckett. More of a bookish type? Check out Cheltenham Literature Festival showcasing authors and literary delights including: Ian McEwan and Eimear McBride and other famous faces such as TVs Claire Balding, astronaut Chris Hadfield and up and coming author and internet queen Emma Gannon. Cheltenham festivals are the perfect way to enjoy the last of the summer sun with family and friends.

Cheltenham Film Society Screenings

Launched in 1945, Cheltenham Film Society boasts over 500 members who are fanatical about film. Running an eclectic programme of pictures from off the beaten track until April 2017, you can enjoy independent and foreign films galore. A great, much cosier option for when the weather begins to change and autumn sets in.

Wi-Fi Wars

For the ultimate gaming experience, visit Cheltenham Town Hall on Tuesday 27th September where you can indulge in digital delights ranging from interactive game play – with prizes! – to mighty trash talking and the chance to play on retro arcade games and the latest in virtual reality technology.

About Africa

Venture out of Cheltenham and explore the broad plains of Africa with Harry Hook at the Pittville Pump Room on Wednesday 28 September. Sharing amazing stories and fascinating film footage from his time spent on the continent, you will get an insight into Africa of both the past and the present.

Last, but certainly not least, if you are staying at hotels near Cheltenham race course, take a punt on your favourite stallion. With key events in this Regency town’s calendar ranging from The Showcase, The International and New Year’s Day races, Cheltenham Racecourse provides a great day out.
