A Guide to the Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2017

The music moguls at our hotel in Cheltenham bring you their top tips for making the most out of one of the hottest events of the season.

Whether a fan of jazz or not, this iconic festival, which takes place in the heart of the beautiful spa town of Cheltenham, will make you want to put on your dancing shoes and groove the day away. If you are thinking of visiting this year, make sure you read our ultimate guide to the festival to ensure you have a toe -tapping time.

Taking place in and around Montpellier Gardens in the heart of Cheltenham town from 26th April to 1st May, the Cheltenham Jazz Festival’s 22nd edition celebrates the past, present and future of jazz. As one of the Cotswolds’ most iconic events, the festival will offer free music, a selection of food and drinks stalls, concerts, acts, and fun family activities for all.

Entrance is free to the festival site, but tickets can be purchased for individual events, so if you want to see a specific artist, you can buy standalone tickets for each show, too – and don’t forget: festival members receive 10% off their ticket purchases, so get in quick.

During the celebration, festival-goers will be able to enjoy a host of fun family activities and over 90 free gigs from local and national artists across the 6 days of the festival. Be sure to visit Montpellier Gardens, BBC Introducing, Cambray Place Stage and The Brewery Quarter Stage, as well as the number of pop-up street performances and pubs which will be celebrating across Cheltenham town centre. Make sure you download the full brochure from the festival website to make the most of your day.

Catch the musical genius and artistic curator for the festival, Jamie Cullum on stage with Ben Folds Solo at The Big Top on Sunday 30th April 2017 between 9–10.30pm. Ben Folds is best known as an alt-rock pianist and leader of the Ben Folds Five, but his solo shows are electrifying. He inspired a young Jamie Cullum, who credits Folds as the reason he started song writing, so the Artistic Curator is honoured to join his musical hero on stage for the first time. Tickets cost £26 – £28 plus a transaction fee, but hurry, they are sure to sell out.

Pack a picnic basket and soak up some sun, sound and culture this May bank holiday.
